This timeless classic has helped well over a million people discover a richer spiritual life infused with joy, peace and a deeper understanding of God.
The book explores the 'classic disciplines' of Christian faith: the inward disciplines of meditation, prayer, fasting, and study; the outward disciplines of simplicity, solitude, submission and service and the corporate disciplines of confession, worship, guidance and celebration.
It is a wonder to me how God uses squiggles on paper to do his work in the hearts and minds of people. How are these squiggles transformed into letters and words and sentences and, finally, meaning?
We must not be led to believe that the Disciplines are only for spiritual giants and hence beyond our reach, or only for those who devote all their time to prayer and meditation. Neither should we think of the Spiritual Disciplines as some dull drudgery aimed at exterminating laughter from the face of the earth.
The purpose of the Disciplines is liberation from the stifling slavery to self interest and fear.
