Treasure in a Clay Jar

By Rev. Don Ezell

In life, things are never perfect. We move into adulthood believing that we will go to college, get a good job, find our one and only spouse, buy a house, have kids, make lots of money, and live happily ever after. Although this may be the dream, it is rare for a person to be dealt these cards. Some of us may have been dealt cards that include, no finances for school, a child born out of wedlock, an unexpected divorce, job layoff, random illness, and the list could go on and on…...

Our meditation scripture for the week reminds us that we have a treasure in a earthen vessel. We are just like jars of clay; fragile. We are easily chipped, cracked or broken. But the good news is that we have the treasure of knowing and believing in the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made for us. Through his sacrifice our clay jar is filled with the power of His unfailing love. Therefore; although we have struggles, although we have trials, although we seem to have been dealt a “bad hand”, we should never lose faith.

REFUSE TO BE BROKEN BY YOUR SITUATION!

2 Corinthians 4:7-10

7But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. 8We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 9persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. 10We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.

Rev. Don:

Thank you for reminding The Whole Village about 2 COR 4:7-10.  This is a POWERFUL scripture for youth and young adults, as well as adults. To God Be The Glory for reminding us that we may be struck down, but not destroyed.  S. Stradford
