The Details Don’t Matter
By Rev. Juanita VinsonJohn 8:10-11
10 Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?” 11 “No, Lord,” she said. And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”
I was talking to a girlfriend of mine and she begin to pour out her very soul about a sin that she committed. She was disappointed in herself and afraid of what other people would think of her because of what she had done. In her sorrow she began to tell me about why she made the decision and tried to get into all the details. I immediately stopped her and told her the details don’t matter they are usually left for the nosy people that want them so they can gossip about you anyway. I then asked her if she had repented from her sin. She answered that she had but was still ashamed and couldn’t decide on what to do or how to handle the gossip and questions that people may have.
I am not a sin expert but I know that we all fall short and that we all have things that we have done that we are ashamed of. I don’t believe that God wants us to walk in our shame that is why he has given us the ability to receive salvation. When we have salvation we have Jesus acting on our behalf the same way that he did with the woman in the above scripture. The accusers come and try to get you to dwell on the sin that you “were” in. They try to keep you thinking about what you have done until you may even start to question your faith and relationship with God. Jesus didn’t ask the woman the details of what she had done he simply replied to her to go and sin no more.
We must remember that we are not perfect! God has given you the ability to ask for forgiveness and to repent so that you may continue to walk in his will and anointing. There is something on this earth that God has given you that only you can do and if your accusers can keep you focus on who you are not – you’ll never walk powerfully in who you are in Christ.
Prayer:
Lord forgive us for our sins because we know that when we sin it is against you and you alone. Your word says that if we confess our sins that you are faithful to forgive us of our sins and cleanse us of all unrighteousness. We believe your word God and ask for a fresh anointing to do what you have called us to do. Help us to be merciful towards people as you have been so merciful to us and help us not to be judgmental towards others but forgiving knowing that love covers a multitude of sins. We love you and trust you to help increase our faith and strengthen our spirits so that we may walk holy and acceptable in your sight.
In Jesus Name – Amen
